  • It is difficult to find good, lively writing, which is oriented towards the consumer – and not just the privileged elite who work in the fashion industry. This book fills a need for the fashionista who loves every day to read articles on intelligent clothing, especially the classics and in his cabinet. The author knows his subject and his affection is contagious.

    There is nothing very new here, but still, it’s fun to do a rehash. Reading these essays, I had a vague feeling that I had read some of the material in several other locations of several other authors – this is the pet of the little black dress for example. (Everyone wants to have the LBD and all the fashion writers in America, wrote about him. The same thing with the hair.)

    , But do not let that spoil the fun and romance of pleasure Read this delicious! It is a great little tribute to the classics, and deserves a place on your bedside table.

    Although I still rate this “light” reading, is an intelligent reading on a subject that some have described as too small and others have brought to the deadly seriousness. This book represents a good balance, from the point of view that clothing says a lot of us, whether we realize it or not.

    While I recognize the writing style the author’s comments (I laughed when she described the so-called hip-hop in search of footwear perfect foot fetish), it does not go out of their way to be too clever or witty (if seldom mentioned persons may be told to do, including designer Manolo Blahnik? – which stipulates that all councils and the rest of the body is boring. … Well) In the first ten chapters, the book offers a history of developments and commentary on the social significance of each of the ten classics, almost all of which are interspersed with personalities who epitomized the spirit of the theme. (Note that Audrey Hepburn and Coco Chanel made an appearance in almost every chapter. Where would fashion without them now?)

    Some items that will remain with me: the seventies / eighties the trend of natural cosmetics and the executive who boasted of their ability to apply twelve different products for the natural look, the evolution of men’s suits to represent Greece (Greco-Roman) ideal of the perfect body, foot fetish that seems to contribute to the design of footwear for many (and an announcement unfortunate fetish participation apostrophe and assassinate me remember not to buy any of their shoes!).
    ;
    If she could not discuss with her options, I find it odd that it does not include boots, black scarf or perfect on your list. Perhaps pushed the number ten of the highest importance, but as a kind of trap in its analysis of the white shirt (referring both to the button and the shirt version), I think he would have found means. But it is a very minor complaint. />

  • Why these ten (and I agree it could be more) of the classical elements found in almost all lists of the base for all those who want to dress well?

    This book answers the question and gives an overview of the history of fashion, to follow the evolution of each product that has become a classic.

    It is a great book, glad it was purchased, fresh writing is easy and interesting, and each chapter has its own.

    I like buying another book by this author, especially if you choose to write about some of the other classics that are not top ten.
